Teams Help Other Team Affected by the 2022 Floods

On Saturday, August 19th 2023, approximately around the one year anniversary of the Eastern KY Floods, Lafayette High School Softball Head Coach Dan Grantz and Breathitt County Head Softball Coach Mike Taulbee delivered softball equipment and monetary donations to Buckhorn High School to help with the softball players and coaches impacted by the floods.

Lafayette partnered with Great Crossing High School in Georgetown to host a softball tournament (Five-Star General Tournament on April 28th and 29th, 2023) for Eastern KY Relief hosting 24 teams - the largest High School Tournament in the state last season. During the event, teams donated money and softball equipment raising over $5000 in estimated value.

Buckhorn High School AD Kristie Combs says they lost everything, and have relocated to the old AB Combs School Building in Perry County until the high school can be repaired. Head Coach Jamie Mullins and Principal Jennifer Day were excited to receive the equipment and looking forward to rebuilding their high school and softball program.

Donations included cleats, helmets, practice jerseys and pants, pop up hitting nets, tees, bat bags, catchers gear, balls, protective masks, batting gloves among others, and a $2000 check to purchase field equipment.

Teams that participated in the tournament and offered donations include Allen County-Scottsville, Anderson County, Assumption, Barren County, Beech (TN), Breathitt County, Butler, Calvary Christian , Christian County, DuPont Manual, East Jessamine, Frederick Douglass, Great Crossing, Green County, Henry Clay, Highlands, Lafayette, Lexington Catholic, Mercer County, Scott County, South Oldham, South Warren, Western Hills. We were so proud that the teams across the state could come together and support an area in need.
